Our first GCSE Dance cohort began their journey in September 2026, and we couldn't be prouder!

Our students are already exploring performance, choreography and dance appreciation, developing their creativity, confidence and technical skills along the way.

Who Is GCSE Dance For?

Our September 2027 programme is open to students entering Years 9 and 10, both girls and boys, who have an interest in dance, movement and creativity.

Previous dance experience is not essential!

This course is ideal for students who:

Love dancing and being creative.
Want to gain an additional GCSE qualification.
Enjoy performing and exploring choreography.
Want to develop their confidence, teamwork and communication skills.
Are interested in pursuing dance or performing arts in further education.
Want to challenge themselves and achieve something outside their usual school curriculum.

An extra qualification, new experiences and the opportunity to do something they love!

What Is GCSE Dance?

GCSE Dance is a creative and dynamic qualification that combines practical dance training with choreography and dance appreciation.

Students develop their skills through solo, duo and group work while building creativity, confidence, physical awareness, teamwork and analytical skills.

The AQA GCSE Dance qualification consists of:

30% PERFORMANCE

Developing technical and expressive skills through set phrases and group performance.

30% CHOREOGRAPHY

Exploring creativity and producing original choreography in response to a stimulus.

40% DANCE APPRECIATION

Understanding, analysing and evaluating dance through a written examination.

What Will Students Study?

Component 1: Performance & Choreography (60%)

Performance of two AQA set phrases.
Duo/trio performance developed from the set phrases.
Original solo or group choreography created from a stimulus.
Practical work recorded for assessment.

Component 2: Dance Appreciation (40%)

A 90-minute written examination.
Choreographic skills and hypothetical choreography.
Reflection on personal performance and choreography.
Analysis and evaluation of six professional dance works from the AQA anthology.

How Does the Course Work?

Our two-year blended learning programme combines face-to-face practical training with online theory lessons.

PRACTICAL SESSIONS – IN PERSON

? The Aylesbury Vale Academy Dance Studio

One evening per week during scheduled teaching weeks.
1.5-hour practical sessions.
Delivered by Kate Beck.
A safe, supportive and encouraging learning environment.
Performance, technique and choreography development.

The current cohort attends on Thursdays, 5:00–6:30pm. Timings for September 2027 will be confirmed.

THEORY SESSIONS – ONLINE

Delivered via Zoom from home.
Led by our education partner, Arts Pool Education.
Scheduled on a separate evening from practical lessons.
Students choose from the available theory session options at enrolment.

Each Academic Year Includes:

30 practical sessions

30 theory sessions

Each session lasts 1.5 hours, with teaching spread across three terms.

This flexible structure enables students to work towards an additional GCSE without disrupting their existing school timetable.

Learn with Kate Beck

Our GCSE Dance practical programme is led by Kate Beck, Principal of KaSoDance Juniors.

Kate brings extensive experience teaching GCSE and A Level Dance, including teaching in London and supporting students across a range of educational settings.

With a proven track record of raising standards and helping students achieve excellent results, Kate provides expert guidance throughout the course.

Her supportive and encouraging approach helps students develop confidence, creativity and the skills needed to succeed.

Course Fees

£2,400 for the complete two-year course

Payment options:

£100 per month over 24 months, starting September 2027.

Alternatively, the full course fee can be paid as a one-off payment.

The fee includes:

All practical tuition.
All online theory tuition.
Required learning resources.

Additional costs:

The GCSE examination entry fee is currently £75, subject to exam board increases.

Optional theatre trips may incur an additional charge.
