GCSE Dance at KaSoDance Juniors

Turn your passion for dance into a recognised qualification.

KaSoDance Juniors, in partnership with Arts Pool Education, delivers a high-quality AQA GCSE Dance course hosted at The Aylesbury Vale Academy. This two-year twilight programme allows students to gain an additional GCSE without impacting their school timetable.

Who is it for?

  • Open to Year 9 and Year 10 students — girls and boys with a passion for dance and creativity, regardless of prior experience
  • Ideal for committed dancers looking to support future education, college, or university applications

Course Overview

  • 2-Year GCSE Dance Course (AQA)
  • A creative and physical subject combining:
    • 30% Performance
    • 30% Choreography
    • 40% Dance Appreciation (Theory Exam)

Students develop skills through solo, duo, and group work, building creativity, confidence, teamwork, physical awareness, and strong analytical and literacy skills.

What Students Will Study

Component 1: Performance & Choreography (60%)

  • Performance of 2 AQA Set Phrases
  • Duo/Trio Performance developed from set phrases
  • Original choreography (solo or group) created from a stimulus
    All practical work is recorded for assessment.

Component 2: Dance Appreciation (40%)

  • 90-minute written exam
  • Hypothetical choreography
  • Reflection on own performance and choreography
  • Analysis of 6 professional dance works (AQA set works)

Teaching & Expertise

  • Led by Kate, an experienced GCSE and A Level Dance teacher
  • Extensive experience teaching in London
  • Proven track record of raising standards across a range of educational settings
  • Passionate, supportive, and expert guidance throughout the course

Course Schedule

Practical Sessions (In Person)

  • Thursdays, 4.30–6.00pm
  • AVA Dance Studio
  • Safe, supportive, hands-on learning environment
  • Delivered by Kate

Theory Sessions (Online)

  • Mondays or Tuesdays (chosen at enrolment)
  • Delivered via Zoom from home
  • Delivered by our partner, ArtsPool education

Across all 3 terms:

  • 30 practical sessions
  • 30 theory sessions
    (1.5 hours each, spread evenly across terms)
